We at D A Christie applaud and fully support the trend to reduce energy consumption and the resultant greenhouse gases produced when using energy.
We are the leading manufacturer of ParkSafe barbecues & Cooking Systems both in Australia and internationally, having pioneered the public barbecue system in 1974 and we are continuously researching, testing and developing improved technologies to ensure our products are the most efficient bbq's on the market.
In Australia and many other places around the world that generate electricity using coal fired power stations, the first choice for energy efficiency is gas (natural gas & propane). Gas may be a fossil fuel, but cooking with it produces around one fifth the greenhouse gas of an equivalent electric unit.
It's by far the cleanest and cheapest form of energy. And only Christies have put the time, money and effort into perfecting the technology.
So if energy efficiency is the only criteria then a Christie gas unit is the only answer.
But unfortunately, things are never quite that simple and in parks around the world, there are many locations where gas is just not practical.
That's why Christies have devoted much of their research to producing the most energy efficient ParkSafe electric barbecue in the world.
Unfortunately, there is a misconception being promoted that low-power means low energy consumption and, as the science proves conclusively, that simply is not true. The amount of energy used and the subsequent greenhouse gas produced, is actually a function of the amount of power applied over the time taken to complete the task.
For example, to cook a hotplate full of food you must use the correct amount of power to heat the hotplate quickly and cook in the shortest time. That ensures that the least amount of energy is consumed. Years of research has helped Christie determine exactly how much power is required for maximum efficiency and the 3.6kw HE hotplate is the result. Tests show that low power bbq's cook too slowly consuming significantly more energy and often stewing the food being cooked.
Another advantage of using a bbq that cooks quickly is that more people can be catered for in a shorter period of time meaning happier park users as they do not have to wait as long for their turn to use the bbq's. Alternatively the same number of people can be catered for with fewer bbq's installed meaning lower upfront costs for the park operator and lower ongoing cleaning and maintenance costs through having fewer units to look after.
DA Christies 3.6kw HE (high efficiency) Hotplate has been proven over many years and many tests to have just the right balance with more than enough power to cook flawlessly, safely and so quickly it actually consumes up to 12% less energy than a 1.8kw unit and up to 25% less energy than old technology hotplates.
For more information on the key criteria of Safety, Hygiene and Efficiency under which our cooking products are built we have produced the Christie Parksafe Cooking System DVD.
